Neutering

Neutering is one of the most common surgical procedures we carry out at Godiva Veterinary Clinic. It can have significant health benefits as well as stop unwanted pregnancies. Whether you're thinking about spaying your female pet or castrating a male, our experienced surgical team will talk you through everything before, during, and after the procedure so you feel confident every step of the way.

Our Neutering Approach

At Godiva Veterinary Clinic we approach every pet as an individual, therefore there are no set times or ages for when your pet should be neutered — this varies on species, breed, gender and medical circumstances. Please speak to one of our trained team members if you would like to book your pet in for neutering and we can advise you on the best time.

Pet Neutering Frequently Asked Questions

  • Neutering costs are dependent on the species of pet you have as well as their gender and size. Please see our price list for neutering prices.

  • Neutering your pet is essentially a surgical procedure performed under general anaesthesia to remove your pet's reproductive organs so that they can't get pregnant or can't get another animal pregnant. It also poses a variety of health benefits and in some species and cases can help with certain behaviours.

  • Neutering your pet will require them to stay with us for the day, to allow for a recovery period after their surgery. One of our members of staff will be in touch throughout the day to give you an update on how they are doing and you will pick them up the same day.

  • Recovery times vary based on your pet's species, age, gender and generally on an individual basis. We offer free of charge post operative checks at day 2 and day 10-14 after the procedure to ensure they are doing well. Most pets are recovered from the anaesthesia after 48 hours and from the surgery after 10-14 days. However all pets are different and some may require more intervention on recovery than others.

Please keep in touch throughout your pet's recovery if you have any questions or worries.
