Microchipping

At Godiva Vets we routinely microchip a variety of different pet species. It is a legal requirement in the UK for both dogs and cats to be microchipped. If your pet were to get lost, having their microchip scanned would be the most reliable way to reunite them with you.

Our Approach to Microchipping

At Godiva Veterinary Clinic microchipping is one of the most routine procedures we carry out day to day. This can be placed within a consultation with a vet or a nurse. It is a simple procedure where an injection with the chip is placed under the skin between your pet's shoulder blades. It is very quick and all your details go straight to a microchip database.

Pet Microchipping Frequently Asked Questions

  • No, your pet can be any size to have a microchip placed. However, sometimes if they are very small the vet or nurse may advise we wait until their next appointment.

  • The microchip details will be registered under the previous owner, so the best way to get them changed is to contact the database which the microchip is registered with. This information can be found from the documentation the breeder or previous owner has provided you. Once you contact the database and give them your pet's microchip number, you will be able to transfer ownership.
